Exclusive: Bostick Will Be Back

Speculation was running wild on Tuesday morning as news broke that freshmen quarterback Pat Bostick had left the University of Pittsburgh. Panther fans immediately began having flashbacks of McKenzie Mathews as the news hit all of the local media and even ESPN. spoke with the father of the five-star recruit late last night and he gave us a brief statement about the situation.

Fans and media alike have christened Pat Bostick as the future of the program before he has even taken a college snap. The five-star recruit from Lancaster, Pa., is expected to compete with junior Bill Stull and redshirt freshman Kevan Smith.

Prior to the Panthers first fall practice sessions of the year all of that seemed in doubt as news began erupting across the internet, then the television and news media that Bostick had left the University late Monday evening. With no distinct answers fans and media were left to speculate as to what had happened.

Last season, the Panthers were stung by the loss of Syracuse, N.Y. defensive end McKenzie Mathews who was homesick and decided to return home to try his hand at small college football. spoke with Pat Bostick Sr. late Tuesday evening and he updated us on the situation as best he could while keeping his sons privacy at the forefront.

"Pat had a personal issue that needed to be addressed and we felt it was best that we do that as a family with the full support of the PITT program," Bostick Sr. said. "I can assure you that this was not an issue of Pat being homesick. He has been at Pitt since May and he loves it there and he loves his teammates and the staff.

"This is nothing like what happened with a player last year," Bostick reiterated. "This is an issue that is not football related and we expect him to back with the team shortly."

Bostick, played his senior season at a little over 230 pounds and he worked his way down to 221 pounds prior to camp.

"He is in the best shape of his life and looks forward to proving himself on the field," Bostick stated.
