Pitt After Florida DE

It's been quite a while since we got an update from Boca Raton, Flor., native Jeff Hutchison, however we were able to catch up with him recently to speak with him about his thoughts on the only program that has offered him in Pittsburgh. The defensive lineman seems pretty high on the Pitt coaching staff and will be making an official visit in November.

Jeff Hutchison, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound defensive end from West Boca Raton High School has started the season with a bang, registering 18 tackles, five sacks, three pass breakups and a forced fumble in three games this season, helping to lead his team to a 2-1 record. At this point his sole written scholarship offer is from the Pittsburgh Panthers, but there are other programs stepping up their efforts toward him.

"I have been hearing a lot lately from Western Michigan, Syracuse, Florida International and West Virginia and some of them seem very close to offering," Hutchison said. "I also talk to Pittsburgh all the time and am planning to visit officially this fall. I had originally set up the visit for October 13th, but the coaches want me to come up during their bye week so I can spend quality time getting to know the players and the coaches as they would all have more time to hang out with me then."

"Coach (Charlie) Partridge is my recruiter and I have also talked to Head Coach (Dave) Wannstedt and a few of the other coaches," Hutchison explained. "Coach Wannstedt actually called me on my birthday and Coach Partridge came down to one of my practices this spring. I think they are all a great bunch of guys who are right to the point and I definitely feel comfortable with the staff. I think the most appealing thing about them is that they talk to you like a person, not just a football player. When I speak to the coaches there they want to talk about family a lot and just are much different then some other staffs I've been involved with."

You wouldn't think Hutchison would be getting pushed toward Pittsburgh much being a native of Florida, however it just so happens that he is surrounded by Pitt-faithful at his high school.

"Three of my coaches are from Pittsburgh and so is the principal of my school, so they are riding me hard to go up there," Hutchison laughed. "I think two or three of them actually graduated from the school, so I get it all the time. I like that Pittsburgh is a great football city with the Panthers and the Steelers and it would obviously be really cool to get to share facilities with an NFL franchise. I'd also be excited to get away from Florida and get out on my own for college. It would be nice to get out of this heat to play for once. I'm just really looking forward to taking my official visit there right now."

Last season Hutchison finished his junior season with 50 tackles, six forced fumbles, nine recoveries, and 9.5 sacks.
