Pitt Among Gardiner's Favorites

Dublin, Ohio native Steve Gardiner still has taken no official visits, however he does hold roughly a dozen offers and has some programs at the top of his list at this point. His team is off to a 7-0 start this season and is hoping to make a push toward a state title this season. Pittsburgh is one of the schools that Gardiner holds in high regard, which he spoke about with Scout.com recently.

Three-star weak side linebacker Steve Gardiner doesn't know his statistics on the season, however given Dublin Coffman High School's 7-0 record the 6-foot-1, 205-pound athlete must be putting in a great effort on a weekly basis. Gardiner has already been on campus at Pittsburgh three times over the last several months and has the Panther program high on his list of potential suitors.

"I have about a dozen offers, but I would say my favorites are probably West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Northwestern and Vanderbilt of the schools that have already extended me written scholarship offers," Gardiner explained. "I am hoping to get offers from Ohio State and Michigan State as well who I have been in constant contact with. I plan on taking all of my official visits after the season and have no idea when I will decide right now."

Gardiner did have a chance to visit the school twice and look around campus, however he was also able to take in a game at Heinz Field this season as well.

"I was at the opener against Eastern Michigan, but I did have to leave late in the 3rd quarter to get home at a decent time," Gardiner said. "The game went well and the crowd was pretty large and into the game. It was a good experience to get to see what it's like in a game situation there."

We asked Gardiner what else jumps out about the program to him.

"Definitely Head Coach (Dave) Wannstedt," Gardiner stated. "He and the rest of the staff have really impressed me from the start and I have been talking to my recruiter (Chris) Ball at least once a week. I like that he brings a lot of energy to the table and even though this is his first year at Pittsburgh, you can tell he really buys into the city and the program."

"I also really like the city of Pittsburgh and the facilities," Gardiner added. "They are a bit off campus, however that isn't a big deal at all and with how nice they are you have to be impressed. There is a lot of great tradition when you talk about Pittsburgh, I though I fit in well there and it was a place I could definitely see myself spending the next four or five years of my life at."

As a junior, Gardiner racked up 125 tackles two sacks, forced two fumbles and made two interceptions on his way to All-District and All-Conference honors. On offense, he recorded 996 rushing yards on 174 attempts for 5.7 yard average and 11 touchdowns.
