Trebitz Could Pop Monday

Linebacker prospect Joe Trebitz made the trip from Boca Raton, Fla., all the way to Pittsburgh this weekend for an official visit before making a decision where he'll spend the next several years of his life. He received a scholarship offer directly after leaving campus this weekend and could have a decision ready as soon as Monday.

West Boca Raton High School middle linebacker Joe Trebitz came into his official visit to Pittsburgh holding offers from Air Force, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Western Michigan, but by the time the 6-foot-2, 200-pound ‘backer landed back home in Florida he had another offer from the Pitt coaching staff. Trebitz is also talking to Connecticut and Boston College.

"My official visit to Pittsburgh was perfect," Trebitz stated. "The coaches were really nice to me and my parents loved it there. Coach (Paul) Rhodes and Coach (Charlie) Partridge both want me to play middle linebacker which was an honor to hear because they had an All-American this year and H.B. Blades before that who is now playing in the NFL."

"I sat down and had a private meeting with Head Coach Dave Wannstedt and Coach Rhodes and they both explained to me how the defense works and how I would fit in if I committed to Pitt," Trebitz explained. "They have one of the best coaching staffs I have come across and I was very comfortable there as they really have more of a family atmosphere there. I could definitely see myself going to Pittsburgh, but I just have to get used to the cold and the big city. I actually had to wear a ski jacket on my visit this weekend." (Yes, we did pick on Trebitz a bit for that.)

The Florida resident went on to talk about some other things he saw in Pittsburgh.

"I just loved the city. Everyone on the team and associated with the program was very humble. The FBI station is right across from the facilities and there are plenty of Fortune 500 companies in the area, so I feel like the opportunities for internships and employment after college would be plentiful. I'm going to talk everything over with my parents and coaches tomorrow and may have a decision then."

Trebitz registered 115 tackles, three sacks, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as a senior.
