Update on Pitt's 2nd verbal Donald Brooks

A look at what the Texas wide receiver has been doing since he gave a verbal committment to the Panthers.

I had the chance to briefly talk to Mike Kleinecke, the Athletic Director at O'Connell High School, the other day. He said Donald has 13 receptions for 138 yards so far this season. Mike said Donald is basically all they have and that he has been double and even triple teamed at times this season. Teams are doing everything they can to take him out of the game plan. Mike said his verbal to Pitt is still solid. He said Donald is being recruited by Texas A&M and Houston and that he will most likely visit each school just to check things out.

Some additional information on Donald Brooks. Donald Brooks, a wide receiver of Galveston O'Connell High School in Texas, is the Panthers' second verbal for the class of 2003. Donald is a 6-4, 185 pound speedster who can run the 40 in 4.4 seconds. Donald was a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) class 3A First-team All-State selection as a junior. He caught 25 passes for 626 yards, an average of 25 yards per catch, and eight TDs last season.

Not only does Donald have great size, but he also has breakaway speed and is considered a big time deep threat, which is rare for a WR of that size. Of his eight TD catches last season, five were of 45 yards or longer! He had TD grabs of 53, 61, 59 and 52 yards and also had an 80-yard punt return for a TD.
