Pitt Hosts Blue Chip DE

We have been talking about Tyrone Ezell for over a year, but now the rest of the recruiting world is figuring out who he is. The Steel Valley defensive end made the short trip to the Panthers practice facility on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

Munhall (Pa.) Steel Valley defensive end Tyrone Ezell has quietly picked up offers from Pittsburgh, Illinois, Rutgers, Colorado and Virginia. But surprisingly the chiseled 6-foot-4, 250-pound defender has gone under a lot of recruiting radars. That was until he had a strong performance at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine in Pittsburgh last weekend. He has since been hearing from Penn State and Miami (Fla.). Ezell was in Happy Valley on Monday for an unofficial visit. Prior to his trip to Penn State, he was at Pitt.

"The trip was pretty good," Ezell said. "I got the chance to listen to coach (Dave) Wannstedt speak and I got to listen in on a few meetings.

"I went down to get my picture taken for the Army Bowl, he said. "I did everything else, but I had to leave before the scrimmage started. I had to help my mom move. She moved down here from Chicago. I plan on going to the spring game at Pitt on the 19th.

Ezell himself is a transplant from Chicago. He moved to Munhall a couple of years ago to get away from his crime riddled neighborhood.

Ezell has told us before that Pittsburgh was his early leader, but he wanted to look at some other schools. Even though Penn State has not offered as of yet, Ezell was impressed.

"Pitt is still my leader," Ezell said. "But Penn State has me very interested. There is a lot of pressure playing there in front of 100,000 people. If you mess up everyone is gonna know about it."
