Scott Covert and his father, former Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jimbo Covert, visited the Panthers practice Friday. The younger Covert went on a tour after in the early afternoon, attended the afternoon session and then talked about his first extended stay at Pitt.
"We had a nice tour of the campus, the Cathedral and things like that, the academic center,'' Covert said. "Everything was great. The basketball arena was awesome, but the academic support system is terrific. My mom will be happy about that. I can't wait to show it to her on my official visit.
"So, I really, really like Pitt a lot, and the academic support system is spectacular. If I come here I know I'll be all right. They help you as much as possible, text you to keep you up on things, and that's spectacular. We went all around and saw a lot. We'll have to set up an official visit.''
Covert will discuss the situation with his parents and might take a visit to Iowa as well. But Pitt definitely made a strong impression on the younger Covert.
"I'll probably make my commitment a couple games into the season,'' Covert said. "I'll take my official visits, talk to my parents and make a decision, but Pitt is right up there. I really enjoyed myself. It was really exciting.''
Covert, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior-to-be defensive lineman at Lake Forest, Ill. High School near Chicago this fall, has offers from Pitt and Iowa.
