Recruits Enjoy Pitt Basketball Game

In the final big recruiting weekend for the Pitt football team, 10 prospects took part in the two-day event that included the Panthers' basketball game against Maryland-Baltimore County Saturday night at the Petersen Events Center.

Among those already verbally committed to Pittsburgh include defensive end Tyrone Ezell, Steel Valley High School, Munhall, Pa.; wideout Todd Thomas, Beaver Falls, Pa. HS; safety Carl Fleming, Franklin HS, Reistertown, Md.; running back Raymond Graham, Elizabeth, N.J. HS; and defensive end Jack Lippert, Central Dauphin HS, Harrisburg, Pa.

Middle linebacker Dan Mason, Penn Hills HS, Pittsburgh, Pa.; tight end-defensive end Malcolm Bush, Hackensack, N.J. HS; defensive tackle Jordan Hill, Steelton-Highspire HS, Steelton, Pa. (near Harrisburg); linebacker Jamal Merrell and wideout Jamil Merrell, Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Tech, Neward, Del.; and cornerback Quron Pratt, Palmyra, N.J. HS. were other recruits in attendance.

Bush and Hill were early commitments to Rutgers, but both have reopened their recruitment and took official visits to Pitt. Even while they were committed, the pair stayed in contact with the Panthers. Tight ends coach Brian Angelichio is recruiting Hill, who is still committed to Rutgers, while secondary coach Jeff Hafley is recruiting Bush, who withdrew his initial commitment. Pratt has not yet received an offer from Pitt, but could get one this coming week.

All the recruits appeared to have a good time at the hoops game, won handily by the Panthers, although many left before the game ended. At halftime, the recruits, family members, the Pitt coaching staff and a contingent of current players left for a late dinner in a Petersen Events Center suite. Only a few returned for the second half. Mason and Ezell were late arrivals to the game.

Safety Andrew Taglianetti, cornerback Jarred Holley, quarterback Pat Bostick, wideout Jonathan Baldwin, linebacker Shayne Hale, linebacker Steve Dell, linebacker Austin Ransom and linebacker Adam Gunn were among the Pitt players with the recruits.
