Dante Taylor (White Plains, N.Y./National Christian Academy, Md.), who is a 2009-10 recruit, was named to the 2009 McDonald's All-America team. Taylor will participate in the 32nd-annual McDonald's High School All-America Game in Miami, Fla. April 1. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN.
"I don't think it'll change the kid,'' Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said. "What I know is that he's a hard-working kid who's excited to be coming to Pittsburgh. He's won a lot of games, and he's another kid from New York who's coming here for all the right reasons.
"He wanted to be here and knew that all along. We recruited him since his freshman year, so it was all about loyalty. That went a long way, and it's something that he mentioned.''
Taylor will become the fifth player in school history to earn McDonald's All-America team honors. He becomes the first player to earn such honors since 1987. The other four were Charles Smith (1984), Jerome Lane (1985), Bobby Martin (1987) and Brian Shorter (1987). Taylor is also one of five All-Americans who have signed with Big East teams.
Taylor is a consensus top-30 recruit. With four regular-season games remaining, Taylor averages 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead his National Christian Academy team to a 20-5 record. As a junior, he averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game to earn Washington Post Second-Team All-MET and Independent private school all-league honors while guiding NCA to a 22-7 record and No. 11 ranking in the Washington D.C. metro area.
Taylor will enroll as a freshman at Pitt for the fall, 2009 semester. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Taylor is a member of Pitt's four-player class that includes Lamar Patterson (Lancaster, Pa./St. Benedict's Prep, N.J.), J.J. Richardson (Missouri, Texas/Fort Bend Hightower H.S.) and Talib Zanna (Kaduna, Nigeria/Bishop McNamara H.S., Forestville, Md.).
