Top CB Christian A Hot Prospect

Cullen Christian is coveted as a top cornerback prospect in 2010, and the Penn Hills High School product has lived up to his expectations so far with strong performances during his junior season and at a combine in his hometown.

Cullen Christian was second in the broad jump at 10-feet, 6 inches, and his vertical jump was 35 inches at the Combine in Pittsburgh. He also has run the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds, and those give him solid coverage skills. At 6-1 and 180 pounds, he also has the size that schools like Pitt, Central Michigan, West Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, Illinois, Syracuse and Purdue are looking for in a cornerback.

Christian appears to leaning toward Michigan right now, but he also likes West Virginia, Maryland and his hometown Panthers.

"The recruiting process is going pretty good, and I have 10 offers so far,'' Christian said. "I'm glad to get interest from my hometown team. Pitt was my second offer, and that means a lot to me. But it really doesn't matter if I stay close to home or go away to school. I just want to go somewhere that I feel I'm needed the most and where I think I have the best chance to play early.

"And Pitt definitely made me feel that way. They told me that I'm tops on their board and that I would be able to play as a true freshman. Of course, a lot of other schools have told me that, too. So, I'll listen to what everybody says, and then I'll make my decision. But I won't be an early commit.''

Christian noted that he might make his college choice during his senior season or sometime after it, but he isn't likely to make it anytime beforehand. Christian wants to take all his visits first to get around as much as possible. He expected to come back to Pitt sometime during the spring to watch a practice.

"That's my plan right now, so it should be a real busy time for me,'' Christian said. "But these combines and camps, they're a good opportunity for me to see where I stand with some of the other top guys and show the coaches and scouts what I can do. So, I'm looking forward to the rest of the year.''

Christian attended two basketball games at Pitt, wins against Marquette and Connecticut to close out the regular season, and he enjoyed both.

"I came to the Marquette and Connecticut basketball games, and they were great,'' Christian said. "What a great atmosphere, terrific games. They were very exciting.''

Assistant head coach Greg Gattuso, who recruits Western Pennsylvania, and secondary coach Jeff Hafley have been recruiting Christian for the Panthers.
