Pitt Offers Florida Wideout

The Pitt football team needs to build its depth at wide receiver and have targeted several top prospects for its 2010 recruiting class.

Pittsburgh is still among the leaders for wideouts like Kevin Weatherspoon from Clairton, Pa. High School; Shakim Phillips from DePaul Catholic HS in Wayne, N.J.; Salath Williams from Bishop McDevitt HS in Harrisburg, Pa.; and Tyrek Cheeseboro from Milford Mill Academy in Baltimore, Md.

However, since the Pitt coaches liked what they saw from him during Saturday's prospects camp, the Panthers tendered a scholarship offer to Allen Hurns from Carol City HS in Miami, Fla. Despite good size and blazing speed at nearly 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds with a 40-yard dash in less than 4.5 seconds, Central Florida is the only other team to offer Hurns.

Along with Pitt and UCF, Miami, Fla., Florida, Florida State, South Florida and Alabama are showing interest in Hurns. He is being recruited by Pitt linebackers coach Joe Tumpkin. But it was Panthers' wideouts coach Bryan Bossard who pushed for an offer after watching Hurns run patterns during camp practice.

Hurns runs a crossing pattern and dives, but he can't pull in a low and wide pass.

Hurns is hit on a down and out and makes a spectacular catch.

Hurns caught 23 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns as a junior at Carol City High School last season.
