Pitt Camp Schedule Announced

The dates and times are set for Pitt's 2009 training camp Aug. 11-27 at the team's practice facility with three intra-squad scrimmages included.

Pittsburgh players are scheduled to report Sunday, Aug. 9, and the annual media day is Monday, Aug. 10 from 9:15 a.m. until noon. The Panthers are expected to unveil their new Nike uniforms on this day.

There are two, two-hour practice sessions Aug. 11 and 12 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 3-5 p.m., as the Pitt football team will be divided into two squads with each working once per day. This will allow the coaches to work with the starters and key backups in one session and the younger players in another.

Pitt practices those opening two days are with shells and shorts. Shoulder pads will be added the next two days, as the Panthers come together for just one practice each day. All practices are closed to the public.

The first workout with full gear is Saturday, Aug 15, from 2-4:30 p.m., the same time as the previous two practices. There will be two practices Tuesday, Aug. 18; Thursday, Aug. 20; Monday, Aug. 24; and Thursday, Aug. 26.

The three scrimmages, also held at Pitt's practice facility, are Aug. 18, 22 and 26. Scrimmages on Aug. 18 and 26 begin at 3 p.m., while the Aug. 22 one gets under way at 10:15 a.m. The annual FanFest at Heinz Field, which basically closes camp, is Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.

The Panthers go into their regular-season schedule beginning Aug. 30 with the season-opening game against Youngstown State is Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Heinz Field.

Pitt returns seven starters each on offense and defense, but must replace both specialists, its top offensive player in tailback LeSean McCoy and top defensive player in middle linebacker Scott McKillop. Both are rookies in NFL camps this summer.
