Pitt Blue-Gold Hoops Scrimmage

Fans will get their first glimpse of the 2009-10 Pitt men's basketball team during the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is general admission, and fans are urged to move close to the court. Parking is available for $5 at the OC Lot.

Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon uses the scrimmage to simulate a typical game-day schedule. The 14-player team will be split into two squads. Pitt will play two 15-minute halves with a five-minute halftime break.

Pitt returns one starter in senior guard Jermaine Dixon, although he won't be playing for at least another months due to a foot injury. The Panthers also return four other letterwinners including juniors Bradley Wanamaker and Gary McGhee, along with sophomores Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson.

Dwight Miller and Travon Woodall are both back after redshirting their freshmen seasons last year. Pitt also welcomes five scholarship newcomers in senior transfer Chase Adams and incoming freshmen Lamar Patterson, J.J. Richardson, Dante Taylor and Talib Zanna.

Pitt is coming off an historic 2008-09 season that saw it accumulate a 31-5 record, advance to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1974, ascend to the nation's No. 1 ranking for the first time in school history (for three weeks on two occasions) and earn a No. 1 seed upon entering the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Pitt plays host to its first exhibition game Sunday, Nov. 1, when it plays Slippery Rock at 4 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.
