Garrett Lucas projects as a guard at the next level, and says he is comfortable at the height and weight he is at right now. He is a strong kid, but his high school team likes to use him as a pulling guard, meaning he must have some good footwork behind that 6-3, 290-pound frame. He now moves on to the next phase of his offseason schedule, the summer camps.
"I went to the Nike SPARQ combine in Pittsburgh in February, and I made all-combine team," Lucas said. "I went to Badger Sports, at Rutgers, and I thought I did very well there. I recently went to the Nike Training Camp at State College, I thought I did really well there too. It went well."
Lucas was invited to a high school all-star game, to be played on New Years Eve. As far as he knows, he is not only the only player from the state of Pennsylvania to be invited to the bowl game, but the only player of any position, in the northeast.
"I recently got invited to Max Emfingers All-American Bowl Game," Lucas said. "It will be played on December 31, 2010 in Daytona Beach, Florida."
Though the combines have gone well, Lucas is looking for some more offers. Appalachian State has been to his school, and St. Francis (PA) has officially offered him. Lucas is still planning to attend camps at Pitt, Penn State and Toledo.
"Pitt and Penn State, I'm pretty sure I'll end up going to those camps," Lucas added. "I just want to make sure I can get it all in. I want to make sure the schedules don't conflict. I want to make sure they're not all on the same day.
"(Penn State assistant) Tom Bradley and (Pitt assistant) Greg Gattuso have stopped by my school. I know that I'm having interest in those schools. I've been to a couple of Pitt games--the Pitt-Cincinnati game, and the Pitt-UConn game. I definitely have a lot of interest in those two schools."
Maryland and Virginia are two other camp possibilities. Coaches from Liberty University have also come by his school.
