Alex Dixon finished his junior season with five interceptions, and also earned all-county, and second-team all-conference honors. Pittsburgh linebackers coach Bernard Clark recruits Florida for the Panthers, and recently extended the official offer for Dixon. Clark is a native of Tampa, just 20 miles from Dixon's Clearwater.
"I just talked to Coach Clark, and he was telling me what they saw on my film," Dixon said. "They said I look good, I have good size and that I'm a good corner. They made an offer for me. I talked to Coach Wannstedt too."
Despite being all the way in Pennsylvania, Dixon says Pitt is a school he's going to give a look to.
"(The offer) was great," Dixon added. "I got an offer from way down there. There's a lot of recognition. It was great. Hopefully, I'll be able to get down there (for a visit)."
Asked what he knew of Pitt's program, recognition seems to be on his mind. That comes in the number of all-conference players that Pitt has produced in recent years, in addition to winning 19 games over the last two seasons.
"They have a lot of recognition, they produce good corners," Dixon said. "I know that they're right next to the Steelers. They produce good corners, great players. That's it. (Clark), I think went to high school with my head coach. He's from down here. He's pretty cool."
Up next for Dixon, just more work in the weight room. One of the most intriguing things about this prospect, is his size at 6-1, 180. He is working on maintaining that weight, or gaining a little to be around 185.
"My summer, I want to get faster, and stay in the weight room to get strong," Dixon said. "I want to gain a little more (weight). Every time I go out there and play, I lose weight. I got to keep that up."
