Q: Tell me about the interest Jon has been receiving?
McCabe: All the local coaches have been calling me about him. He has been to West Virginia and Pitt's junior days that were held recently. He will most likely attend the Metro-Index camp run by Joe Butler so everyone will see how he stacks up against the best in Western PA.
Q: Does he plan on attending any camps?
McCabe: He plans on attending West Virginia's lineman camp and maybe a few others.
Q: Is he still wrestling?
McCabe: No, he decided to not go out for wrestling so he could concentrate on lifting weights and getting bigger and stronger for his senior season. Last year he lost 30 lbs. to wrestle and it took him till almost October to gain the weight back. He played around 260 lbs. last season.
Q: What are his lifting stats?
McCabe: Last year as a junior he benched 335 lbs., squated 500 lbs., and cleaned 255 lbs. He is the strongest kid I have coached in the last 10 years of coaching football. He was selected as lineman MVP of the team last season.
Q: Does he play on defense also?
McCabe: Last year he played a little, he will play much more this season.
Q: Does he favor any schools?
McCabe: Not at this point; he is open as to his choices.
Thanks again to Norwin Knight coach Tim McCabe for taking the time to do this interview on one of the best linemen in the WPIAL.
