Anderson talks Friars and recruitment

A big weekend is on tap for Providence College and its recruiting efforts, but the Friars continue to look far and wide for prospects.

As Late Night Madness approaches this coming Friday, it marks the beginning of the college basketball season. This is the time of year where 2011 recruits may end their recruitments in time to concentrate on their own upcoming basketball season. For Providence College fans, they know the importance of this weekend, as some of the top recruits in the country will be on hand for unofficial and official visits.

It has been reported by multiple sources that the Friars top two point guard prospects for the 2011 class, are Ryan Boatright (Aurora East H.S., Illinois) and Kyan Anderson (North Crowley High, Texas). After Jeff Borzello of NBE Sports broke the news that Ryan Boatright would announce his college decision this weekend, ScoutFriars.com wanted to see where Kyan Anderson stood in his recruitment. We caught up with him shortly after the Boatright news broke.

We asked Kyan a few questions to see where Providence stood in his recruitment. He told us "Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Providence of course and Bradley are the schools recruiting me" but when asked if one school stood out to him right now, he stated "I don't really have a favorite."

As we know the assistant coaches have been very busy all summer, and Assistant Coach Chris Davis is lead on Anderson. "Chris Davis is doing my recruiting" was his response when asked who has been communicating with him. Whether the staff knows something that we may not know yet in regards to Boatright, they have scheduled an official visit with Anderson.

ScoutFriars has heard that he will visit Providence on October 23rd and he confirmed to us, "Yes, my visit is on the 23rd." When talking about a timetable for a commitment or if he would commit during his visit to Friartown he replied, "I think I would take a little time after the visit to commit unless it's just perfect for me."

It may be important to note that this four-star prospect has "no other visits set up at the moment" although he has already visited Oklahoma earlier this month. Oklahoma has also targeted former Friar commit Naadir Tharpe who will visit there on October 15th according to his Brewster Academy coach via Twitter. Fans may have to wait and see how this weekend plays out for the Friars but if Ryan Boatright chooses another school after his Providence visit, look for the staff's focus to move to this Texan.
