From the get-go, there has been no doubt about how important a recruit Mitchell is to Ed Cooley and the Friars. When Mitchell visited the campus for the Elite Camp last August, he was the lone underclassman to play on the team that consisted of Paschal Chukwu, Abdul-Malik Abu, Jared Terrell and Kaleb Joseph. ScoutFriars caught up with Donovan to talk about his visit, his recruitment, and his game.
ScoutFriars: So, how did your visit to Providence go today?
Mitchell: It went very well, I think.
ScoutFriars: What did you do on the visit - meet with the coaches, players ... tour the campus?
Mitchell: I met with the AD, the coaches, and staff.
ScoutFriars: What do you like most about PC that has made you interested in them?
Mitchell: The relationship I have with the coaching staff.
ScoutFriars: I know the coaches have been recruiting you for a long time and made you a priority. Will that play a big role in your decision?
Mitchell: That definitely will be a big role. Trying to evaluate that throughout every school.
ScoutFriars: What size school do you prefer - small, large, or it doesn't really matter?
Mitchell: Generally a large school.
ScoutFriars: What part of your game are you working on right now?
Mitchell: I am working on my ball handling the most.
ScoutFriars: What events will you play in this summer?
Mitchell: I will be in Philly, Atlanta, and Vegas.
ScoutFriars: As you visit schools multiple times, like you have with PC, what are the different things that you look for?
Mitchell: I'm just trying to get a feel of the school itself outside of basketball.
ScoutFriars: Who do you model your game after?
Mitchell: Russell Westbrook or Dwayne Wade.
ScoutFriars: Is distance from home a factor at all in your decision?
Mitchell: Distance from home doesn't matter to me in my decision as long as I can play.
ScoutFriars: I know you had previously said you may decide in September, but more recently that it might get pushed back. Is that still the case?
Mitchell: Yes, I won't be deciding in September.
