These camps give coaches a chance to accomplish a number of things: continue to show love to their top prospects; continue to evaluate performances and talent; and discover new prospects.
Whatever the case, being seen is important, and PC's coaches were present and accounted for.
REEBOK CLASSIC BREAKOUT CAMP – PHILADELPHIA, PA, JULY 8-11
Coaches present: Brian Blaney and Ed Cooley
Donovan Mitchell : 6’3” SG from Brewster Academy. Mitchell reportedly played very well this weekend at Reebok and BasketBull in Springfield, MA, continuing to boost his stock considerably. He received offers from Louisville, Memphis, Villanova, and South Florida. According to Terrence Payne of NBC Sports, he plans on taking official visits to Louisville and Indiana.
Ernest Aflakpui : 6’10” center from Archbishop Carroll HS (PA). Aflakpui played at both the Reebok Breakout and Elevate Hoops Showdown, and was one of the standouts at Elevate. He was active, ran the court hard, and rebounded well. PC has offered, and he added more offers from Memphis and URI. @JoshVerlin tweeted that, per a source, he is considering Temple, St. Joseph’s, VCU, San Diego St, and George Washington of the schools that have offered.
John Crosby: 6’2” PG, who will spend a post-graduate year at New Hampton Prep (NH). Crosby was recruited by George Mason, but decided to go the prep school route. PC is among those who have shown interest since he reclassified, including Tennessee, SMU, URI, and Rutgers. He reportedly performed well at Reebok, showing a good midrange game, and making the most of his opportunity.
Steve Enoch: 6’9” power forward from Norwalk High (Conn). Enoch drew a lot of interest this past weekend, with PC, Virginia, Seton Hall, UConn, Oregon, Memphis and North Carolina among those watching. UConn is considered the frontrunner.
Derrick Jones: 6’6” small forward from Archbishop Carroll HS (PA). Jones was among the stars of the camp, scoring 31 in one game. He’s an elite athlete, and his half-court game is coming around. The competition for Jones is fierce, with UConn, Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and Florida among those involved. He accepted an invite to play in the Cecil’s World Classic rising star game.
C.J. Keyser: 6’4” SG from Patterson Mill (MD). Keyser played at both the Reebok Breakout and Elevate Hoops Showdown. There are questions whether he is a PG or SG, but he reportedly showed he can handle the ball and elevated his stock over the weekend. He visited PC and URI recently, and has offers including St. Joseph’s, La Salle, Drexel, Towson and Rhode Island. He is also planning on visiting Rutgers soon.
Dupree McBrayer: 6’4” SG, The Patrick School (NJ). McBrayer played and shot well at camp, and has gotten plenty of attention from Minnesota and Seton Hall, where he visited recently, St. John’s as well as PC.
Jared Reuter: 6’8” PF, Brewster Academy (NH). Reuter stood out at the Reebok camp, showing the ability to hold his own against players much taller than him, like 7’3” Jean Marc Koumadje and 6’10” Diamond Stone. He made the East all star roster, showing a great motor and being described as a “bull” in the paint. In an interview, he listed PC, URI, South Carolina and Northwestern as among those coming after him the hardest. Iowa offered, Temple and Pitt are also in the mix.
Sam Miller: 6’7” PF, Gonzaga HS, Washington, DC. Miller received an offer from PC after this weekend, as well as George Mason.
ADIDAS UPRISING CAMP – CHICAGO, IL, JULY 9-13
Coaches present: Bob Simon and Ed Cooley
Kobe Simmons (2016): 6’5” PG, Alpharetta, GA, St. Francis School. Simmons, one of the elite prospects in the 2016 class, had a terrific weekend at Adidas and was among the tournament’s leading scorers (12.3 ppg). He added offers from Ohio State and Kansas.
Rawle Alkins (2016): 6’4” SG, Brooklyn, NY, Christ the King. PC offered the highly rated guard after a great showing at Adidas, as did Louisville. According to Zagsblog, Cincinnati and Villanova are among those making an early push.
Braxton Blackwell (2016): 6’7” SF, Nashville, TN, Christ Presbyterian Academy. Blackwell, Jalen Lindsey’s former teammate who has received plenty of attention from PC, had a great weekend and was named to the 2016 All-Star Game, along with Kobi Simmons and Rawle Alkins. He was among the FG percentage leaders at the camp (60%).
Kaiser Gates: 6’7” SF, Alpharetta, GA, St. Francis School. Gates had a strong show at Adidas, including a 15 point effort on Friday. PC has offered, along with several SEC schools, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.
TY LAWSON/Victor Oladipo ALL AMERICAN CAMP – HYATTSVILLE, MD – JULY 9-11
Coaches present: Andre LaFleur and Ed Cooley
Justin Robinson – 6’1” PG, St. James School (MD). Robinson played well at the Lawson/Oladipo camp, proving to be one of the top passers in attendance. He’s described as a pure point guard who makes others better. Schools like Maryland and Virginia Tech are among the competition.
Chris Clarke – 6’6” SF, Cape Henry Collegiate School, Virginia Beach, VA. Robinson’s teammate on Boo Williams, is also getting interest from PC. Clarke had a big weekend both scoring and on the boards. Florida St. offered, with Minnesota, Maryland, and many others in the mix.
Barry Brown – 6’3” PG, Gibbs, St. Petersburg, FL. Brown picked up offers from PC and Dayton following a strong showing at Lawson/Oladipo camp.
Drew Edwards - 6’3” PG, Calvert Hall, Towson, MD. In a Scout.com article, Edwards said Kansas St, PC, Richmond, Dayton are standing out for him right now. Speaking of PC, Edwards said “I love the school especially coach [Ed] Cooley. He is a really good guy and I think he wants the best for everybody.” “If I were to go there, I would go there for him. I really like them a lot.”
Ryan Fazekas – 6’7” SF, Marquette HS, Michigan City, IN. The PC commit played well this past weekend, reportedly scoring 11 points in one game, and 20 in another (including 6/8 from 3 pt land).
LeBron James SKILLS ACADEMY – LAS VEGAS, NV, JULY 9-12
Coach present: Bob Simon
Esa Ahmad – A new name, offered by PC.
Kenny Williams – Another new name, who received a recent offer from the Friars.
Prince Ali – Played extremely well and has said that PC is one of the schools coming at him “hard.” Started to show off an improved jumper along with his patented drives to the hoop.
Isaiah Briscoe - 6’3” PG from Roselle Catholic (NJ). 5 star prospect. PC still in the mix.
Eric Davis – 6’2 PG, Saginaw, MI, Arthur Hill – According to Adam Zagoria, UConn and Texas have recently offered. Going to visit UCLA and UNLV officially. Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan St among those in the mix. Will trim list this summer.
Antoino Blakeney – 6’3” SG, Orlando, FL, Oak Ridge – top 25 recruit – received an offer from Kentucky.
