The Friars desperately needed a big man late after losing Paschal Chukwu and Quadree Smith visited over the weekend and committed to PC on Wednesday.

With the surprising exit of Paschal Chukwu, Ed Cooley and company were vastly looking to fill their front-court void. And today Providence has added a late, but important piece to its 2015 class.

Big man Quadree Smith of IMG Academy has committed to Ed Cooley and the Friars. Smith is 6’7/6'8, 270 pounds, and his size is compared to Glen Davis and Devonte Gardner.

Smith who has been well traveled throughout high school, opted to do a post-grad year at IMG Academy, where it has ultimately played off great for the big man.

After visiting Providence, Smith told me he had a great visit all around. “My visit went very well. I think Coach Cooley is very down to earth. He has a great staff, it’s more than just basketball with them,” Smith noted.

With many schools still calling, Quadree opted for the Friars just after his visit. Smith who has lost a significant amount of weight, will be a beast down low playing alongside Ben Bentil. Quadree has played against great competition at IMG Academy, as his game should translate easily playing in the Big East.

He continued on to say, “I can see us making a deep run this year. I will bring toughness and a skill set that few bigs have. Most importantly, I bring heart.”
