Commitment Capsule: Trae Hart

Purdue landed its first commitment for the 2014 recruiting class, Dallas receiver Trae Hart. Boiler Sports Report offers the details, a scouting report and highlight film.

Name: Trae Hart
School: Dallas (TX) First Baptist Academy
Position: Wide Receiver
Height, Weight, 40 Time: 5-11, 155 lbs., 4.38

Background: Purdue offensive coordinator John Shoop was in Dallas to scout quarterback Max Partlo, but a lightning fast receiver caught his attention. Trae Hart and his 4.38 40-yard dash time forced Shoop's hand. The Boilermakers extended a scholarship offer to Hart and he couldn't say no.

Scout's take: This is why coaches recruit. John Shoop wasn't in Dallas to watch Trae Hart, but the receiver won him over. Hart has blazing speed and consistent hands, which is what a college coach wants. The questions with him are with size and how it translates to the next level. Hart has potential to be a playmaker, but it's hard to read what kind of college player he'll become.

Quote to note:"Coach Shoop said you can't teach the kind of speed I have. They like my hips, my footwork, my hands, just my overall production. Coach Shoop said I was catching the ball well, my routes were real nice. I was just out there looking good. He said they really like me and they can see me doing great things in their program." –Trae Hart, describing how he earned his Purdue offer.
