School: Homestead High School, Fort Wayne, IN.
Height, Weight: 6-foot-7, 270 pounds
Position: Power Forward/Center
Bio: The name Caleb Swanigan is just beginning to spread. With a strong showing during the July evaluation period, it will blow up. The 6-foot-7 big man plays his AAU ball with the Spiece Indy Heat, a dominant team loaded with top talent. Swanigan is the man in the middle and will get plenty of looks. Still a rising sophomore, plenty of offers are surely in store.
Scouting Report: There's plenty to like about Swanigan's growing game. You have to start with the fact that he's a physical presence underneath the hoop, using his size and strength to pull down rebounds on defense and create shots on offense. He's an unselfish player who doesn't try to do too much and stays within his game. On offense, Swanigan is consistent when close to the hoop and has a smooth jump shot, too. While Swanigan is not the most athletic guy on the court, there is still plenty of room for growth in his game.
What it means for Purdue: Just last Friday, the Purdue coaching staff got to watch Swanigan play—far from the first time. Swanigan has been on the Boilermakers' radar for some time. Often, head coach Matt Painter is cautious with offering a prospect so young, especially when it's someone like Swanigan who has room to grow in his game. However, an offer could be in the works this summer if Swanigan impresses on the AAU circuit.
Quote to note: "I let the offense come. I don't focus on offense. If I get it on the block, I'm going to score. But I try to focus on rebounding and letting the offense come." –Caleb Swanigan, assessing his game.
