Purdue lands specialist McGehee

Purdue landed its specialist on Friday, receiving a verbal commitment from kicker/punter Austin McGehee.

Purdue made it a priority to add a specialist for its 2014 class. On Friday, the Boilermakers got their guy.

While on campus for a visit, Arkansas native Austin McGehee gave his verbal commitment to Purdue.

McGehee's offer from Purdue came on Wednesday, and no visit was planned then. He wasted no time making the trip from Pine Bluff, Arkansas to West Lafayette, and he snatched up the offer.

"I feel pretty good about it," McGehee said after the offer came on Wednesday. "I was pretty psyched."

As a high school junior, McGehee was First-Team All-State in Arkansas as he hit 14 of 18 field goals and went 66 of 68 on extra point attempts. He also averaged 44.1 yards per punt and put 61 of his 70 kickoffs into the end zone. McGehee works with kicking guru Chris Sailer, who rates him as a 4.5-star prospect.
