Hunt named to Hornung Watch List

Purdue running back Akeem Hunt was named to the Hornung Award Watch List.

Even without a start under his belt, there is plenty of hype around Akeem Hunt. Purdue's junior running back was named to the Hornung Award Watch List.

The Hornung Award, in its fourth year of existence, honors the nation's most versatile player.

Last season, Hunt ranked sixth in the Big Ten in all-purpose yards, even in a backup role in the offense. He tallied just 335 rushing yards but averaged eight yards per carry. The bulk of his yards last season came on kickoff return, where he posted 867 yards on the campaign, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown against Ohio State.

Hunt seemed to lock up the top spot at running back during the spring, showing the new coaching staff his abilities. He broke out in the spring game with 134 yards and a touchdown.

Under the leadership of new head coach Darrell Hazell, Purdue's offense will see a shift in style with a run-heavy, pro-style look. Working as the Boilermakers' feature back, Hunt is sure to benefit.
