Scouting Report: Ashton Jackson

Purdue has its sights set on Trotwood-Madison (OH) running back Ashton Jackson, a versatile runner with great upside to his game. Boiler Sports Report saw Jackson in action during a 42-8 win in the Cincinnati Crosstown Showdown, and offers these notes and quotes.

Name: Ashton Jackson
Position: Running Back
School: Trotwood-Madison (OH) Height, Weight: 5-10, 195 lbs.

What you missed: The place was packed and the stakes were high. It was the annual Crosstown Showdown and Ashton Jackson was hungry for a win.

On his second run of the game, the Trotwood-Madison (OH) senior running back broke through the A-gap and marched 36 yards to the end zone. The crowd at University of Dayton's Welcome Stadium went crazy. It was just the beginning of a 42-8 Trotwood-Madison rout which saw Jackson earn ‘Play of the Game' honors.

It was another big game for the senior running back. More of these will bring new offers to the table.

Scouting Report: There's plenty to like about Ashton Jackson's game. He stands at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, running with some force. Jackson is quick to the hole and has the ability to break any run into a big one, as he showed in Friday's win. Jackson has quick feet and is very agile. The only knock about his running abilities is that he usually goes down on the first hit. If Jackson can add some size to his frame, he'll be a quick AND punishing runner.

Offers: Purdue, Illinois, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan

Recruiting Breakdown: Jackson said on Friday that he has Purdue as one of his top-three schools, but wouldn't name the other two schools in the mix. There are several other strong suitors, namely Illinois, which will provide competition for the running back. However, all indications are that Jackson will end up at Purdue. He will set three official visits for the fall, with a trip to West Lafayette included. A verbal commitment is expected in early October.

Prediction: Purdue
