Cobbs commits to Purdue

Chicago-area receiver Simmie Cobbs gave Purdue his verbal commitment on Wednesday night.

As a building program, sometimes, you have to dig deep to find a steal along the recruiting trails.

Purdue believes it has that in receiver Simmie Cobbs, who will commit to the Boilermakers' 2014 class on Wednesday night. Cobbs made it official, calling head coach Darrell Hazell on Wednesday.

The addition of Cobbs marks 10 commits for the Boilermakers. He is also the third wide receiver to join the class.

Cobbs' offer from Purdue is the first he has received. It's a school that took a chance on him on limited film, that due to being ruled ineligible as a junior because of a transfer.

Cobbs, a 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, has flexibility as a receiver or tight end. With 4.5 speed, he could become a serious weapon in the Boilermakers' offense.
