Ex-Kentucky DL Newton transfers to Purdue

Kentucky transfer Langston Newton has enrolled at Purdue, becoming one of three early enrollees.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- The early additions of David Blough and Kirk Barron have been expected for months. The introduction of Langston Newton was a pleasant surprise for Purdue.

Newton, a Carmel, Ind. native, spent the past two years at Kentucky but never played a snap. He was a first-team all-state selection as a senior and led Carmel High School to a 2011 state championship.

Newton's transfer was sudden and surprising. His commitment to Purdue was solidified on Sunday and he enrolled in classes on Monday, the first day of the spring semester.

Newton's eligibility remains unknown, and Purdue is currently exploring his status for the 2014 season.

Purdue also officially welcomed quarterback David Blough and center Kirk Barron, who have been committed to the Boilermakers' 2014 class since the summer.

The Boilermakers will introduce their full class on Wednesday, February 5th, on National Signing Day.
