Heacock leaves Purdue to take Toledo DC job

Jon Heacock is leaving Purdue to become Toledo's defensive coordinator.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Darrell Hazell is losing one of his top assistants. Purdue defensive backs coach Jon Heacock is off to Toledo, becoming the Rockets' defensive coordinator.

"I would like to thank Jon for his hard work over the last year in helping to restore the Purdue program," Hazell said in a statement. "I've known coach Heacock for a long time and I wish him well in his new job."

Heacock was head coach at Youngstown State for nine seasons before joining Kent State as defensive coordinator of Hazell's staff for three seasons. He has also been defensive coordinator at Indiana and Youngstown State.

This is the second time Hazell has lost one of his assistants. Offensive line coach Jim Bollman joined Michigan State's coaching staff after a month in West Lafayette.
