Ford picks Texas over Purdue

Purdue missed out on four-star defensive tackle Poona Ford, who committed to Texas on Signing Day.

The prize of Purdue's recruiting board fell through on Signing Day.

Four-star defensive tackle Poona Ford gave his commitment to Texas, picking it over Purdue and Missouri.

"I committed to them because that is the right place for me and I fit in with those coaches," Ford said. "I can make big things happen there. I mean, [Charlie Strong & Brian Jean-Mary] have been there for me for over a year. They were recruiting me when I was committed to Louisville and we have a great relationship."

Ford was originally committed to Louisville but dropped his pledge when Strong accepted the head-coaching position at Texas. He then brought Purdue and Missouri back in to contention, two schools which were finalists for his original decision.

The Boilermakers have received letters of intent from 18 of their verbal commits. Only Miguel Machado, the prized JUCO tackle, has yet to submit as he mulls a late offer from Michigan State.
