Verbal Commit May Visit Purdue

One of the top prospects in the Midwest has verbally committed but he says Purdue is still recruiting him heavily. Can Joe Tiller get this fine athlete on campus?

Garrett Bushong, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound, tight end, from Ionia, Michigan is among the top prospects in the Midwest. Bushong gave a verbal commitment during his junior season to the Michigan State Spartans.

"Michigan State offered me a scholarship when I was a sophomore." Bushong said. "I came up there (East Lansing) a couple of more times and I just felt very comfortable with the coaches, the atmosphere on campus, the players and committed.

"My commitment to Michigan State is solid but I still might take a look around. I'm sure I'm going to (Michigan) State but I'll probably go check out both Florida and Purdue.

"I'm still hearing from Purdue heavily. Illinois, South Carolina, Florida and Maryland are also still contacting me.

Bushong will be four-year starter on both sides of the ball in 2002. He had 32 catches from his tight end position as a junior. Garrett was named all-county and all-conference in 2001.

Garrett Bushong carries a 3.6 GPA and scored 22 on his ACT.
