Bernard Pollard, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound, defensive back from Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Southside will be a prospect to watch in 2002. As a matter of fact, Pollard may just be the best safety prospect in the Midwest.
Pollard is a striker that makes plays all over the field and he's the hardest hitter we've seen on film this year and that includes All-America candidate Prescott Burgess.
"I have scholarship offers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Northern Illinois and Akron." Pollard said.
"My favorites are Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Wisconsin and now I'm starting to like Ohio State a lot. I'd also put Michigan State in there.
"I don't try and emulate just one football player. Every game and every play, I try to hit like Ronnie Lott, cover like Charles Woodson and run like Deion Sanders.
Pollard has been timed at 4.48 in the 40-yard dash and we expect his scholarship offer count to climb during the season and after it as well.
Bernard will be a three-year varsity starter. As a sophomore he had 105 tackles, five interceptions and five forced fumbles.
Last year, Pollard had 130 tackles, eight forced fumbles, five interceptions and he ran back three of those picks for touchdowns. He also had four fumble recoveries.
On offense, Bernard played quarterback, running back and wide receiver. He had 25 carries for 330 yards and three catches for 90 yards.
Pollard also letters in basketball and track. He carries a 2.5 GPA and has yet to take his ACT or SAT.
