Goebel Grabs SEC Scholarship Offer

Garrett Goebel, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound, offensive and defensive tackle, from Montini Catholic in Lombard, Ill., is one of the top interior lineman in the entire nation. BCS schools from coast-to-coast have offered Goebel a scholarship. We caught up with Garrett today at Montini and asked him about his newest offer and current favorites.

"Tennessee was in today and they offered me a scholarship," Garrett Goebel said.

"I have scholarship offers from every school in the Big Ten except for Penn State. Now I have Tennessee, North Carolina State, Maryland, Arizona State and Miami (Fla.). I think there's more but I can't think off the top of my head right now."

We asked Goebel if he could talk about his spring trips and unofficial visits as well as camp and combine plans.

"I've already been to Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Arizona State." Goebel said.

When asked to name some early leaders for his services, Goebel had this to say.

"I've just been really impressed with all the schools I've visited already. I mean, Ohio Stadium sticks out but everyone had something that I liked but I can't name any favorites right now. I'm going to wait until the end of May before I eliminate any schools."

Will distance be a factor in Garrett's decision? Where will he camp this summer?

"Distance isn't a bid deal for me," said Goebel. "My parents and I have talked about it. They want to be able to come watch me play but they also said it's going to be my decision." Goebel said he will be attending the Scout.com combine on May 19th at College of Du Page.
