Boilers Battle for Illinois Athlete

Purdue is just one of several schools that are in the hunt for defensive back Tommie Thomas. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, from Richards high in Oak Lawn, Illinois is a difference maker and a ball hawk. Here's what Thomas had to say when asked to talk about his performance at a recent combine and which schools are at the top of his wish list.

"Purdue, Indiana and Illinois have all offered me a scholarship." Tommie Thomas told the Boiler Sports Report.

"Iowa has given me a verbal offer but it's not official yet. I'm being recruited by most schools as a defensive back and as a wide receiver. It doesn't matter to me where I play, I'd play on both sides of the ball in college if I could."

We asked Thomas if he could tell us his impressions on which prospects he felt impressed him the most at the combine.

"I got to see Brandon Green and Jack (Ramsey) for the first time," Thomas explained.

"I mean, I know those guys from around but this is the first time I got a chance to see them work out and they were both impressive."

It's early in the recruiting process but we asked Thomas which schools he has atop his wish list in mid-May.

"I can say Ohio State is up there with Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Wake Forest, Nebraska and Colorado." Thomas said.

"I'll be camping at Michigan, Iowa and Illinois for sure. I might hit a few more camps but I'm not sure which ones yet."

On the defensive side of the football, Tommie Thomas had 85 tackles and 10 interceptions. On offense, Thomas averaged 18 yards per receptions and scored 7 touchdowns.
