Chicago LB Talks Recruiting

If there's one prospect that college coaches will be keeping close tabs on in the 2007 season, it just might be linebacker Russell Ellington. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, from Homewood-Flossmoor high in Flossmoor, Illinois, was a stand-out on offense but the defensive side of the ball looks like where Ellington's ticket will be punched at the next level.

"I don't have a favorite position or a position that I just have to play, I'm an athlete and I'll play wherever the coaching staff wants me to play." Russell Ellington said.

"I have an offer from Eastern Illinois right now and there have been several schools that have called and want me to go to camp so they can see which position they would recruit me at.

"I plan on going to Notre Dame's elite junior camp on June 2nd and I really don't have anything else set in stone right now but I'll probably hit a few more camps in the summer."

What does former Homewood-Flossmoor coach Tom Bailey think of Ellington?

"I'm not surprised at all that Russell has been getting more attention that (Supo) Sanni." Coach Bailey told the Boiler Sports Report.

"Sanni flashes more than Russell does but Russell has more potential. Russell is being recruited as an outside linebacker and that's where I see him playing.

"Russell (Ellington) has a great body and he hasn't really hit the weights yet because of AAU basketball. Once he hits a major college weight-room and training table, Russell is going to be a force."

Which schools does Ellington have at the top of his wish list at this time?

"Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue and North Carolina State are my favorites." Ellington said.

Russell Ellington had 35 tackles and 4 interceptions in 2007 including a 101-yard interception return. Offensively, Ellington had 818 yards and 8 touchdowns.

For the scholarship offer counters out there, Ellington does have work to do in the classroom. Once his academics are in order, look for the offers to roll in on a steady basis.
