Juarez Begins Camp Stops

A prospect that college recruiters seem to be very intrigued with is Manny Juarez, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound, defensive back, from Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Academy. Juarez recently participated in the Northern Illinois Senior Technique Camp this past weekend and performed extremely well. Juarez took time to talk recruiting with us after the camp.

"I thought I did well at the (Northern Illinois) camp," Manny Juarez told the Boiler Sports Report.

"The Northern Illinois coaches talked to me after the camp and told me that they will be keeping a close eye on me. They (NIU) only have about 10 scholarships to give this year so they are evaluating everyone very close.

"I just left Illinois for one of their one-day camps and I'm going to Northwestern (June 12) today for a camp. I'll be going to Eastern Illinois on Wednesday. I'm also considering going to camps at Eastern Michigan, Illinois State and Purdue."

Juarez is coached by Dave Thorpe. Coach Thorpe came to Marmion from the Buckeye State where he coached the likes of former Ohio State defensive line standout David Patterson. Thorpe has high praise for Juarez.

"I've coached a lot of great football players," Coach Thorpe said. "Manny (Juarez) is as good an athlete as I've ever had. He's extremely athletic. He could play cornerback in college, he's tough enough and strong enough to play safety and he's a tremendous leader.

"Manny is a guy that his teammates feed off of and he makes everyone around him better. Manny has an infectious personality. You can't help but not like this young man."

Juarez is still looking for his first scholarship offer.

"No offers yet," Juarez said. "Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Eastern Illinois, Wyoming and Wisconsin all called me in May," he added.

"My favorites right now are Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, Illinois State and Notre Dame."

Manny Juarez played cornerback as a sophomore and was moved to free safety as a junior. He had 5 interceptions in 2006 and returned two of those interceptions back for a touchdown. Juarez was an all-conference selection.

No problems in the classroom. Juarez carries a 3.7 GPA and scored a 22 on his ACT.
