P-Town Legend Commits

Albert Evans, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, running back, from Portage, Ind., gave Purdue University his verbal commitment yesterday while on an unofficial visit to the West Lafayette campus. The Boilermaker recruiting efforts were led by assistant coach Mark Hagen.

"I had it narrowed down to Northern Illinois and Purdue," Albert Evans told the Boiler Sports Report.

"I picked Purdue because I wanted to get things over with before the start of the season and Purdue was in the Big Ten.

"Northern Illinois had a lot of underclassmen at running back, the situation at Purdue seemed to be better for me right now. Purdue is also close to home so my family will be able to come watch me play."

Evans, the No. 9 ranked prospect in Indiana according to Scout.com, rushed for 1,603 and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough to earn Evans all-state honors. Evans was also named to the Indiana pre-season "Tremendous 26" team as well.

Evans carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom. Albert plans on graduating with his class in May and will enroll at Purdue either in the summer or fall of 2008.
