Purdue Still In Play

One of the top prospects in the Land of Lincoln has started to take his official visits. Nick Plato, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound, tight end, from Edwardsville, has several scholarship offers, he recently visited Boston College and two more visits are in the works. There's one school that's now coming on strong.

"I visited Boston College (10-7) a few weeks ago and had a very good time," Nick Plato said.

"Chestnut Hill was a very nice place. Boston College is having a great year and I was glad that I got the chance to get out there to see everything first hand. Boston College was one of the first schools to start recruiting me.

"I originally committed to Boston College but I got caught up in the whole official visit thing. I called the BC coaches back and told them that I wanted to look at more schools before I committed.

"I just got off the phone with the coaches from Oklahoma State (11/3) and they are bringing me in for an official visit for the Texas game. I'm in the process right now of setting up an official with Kansas State also."

Those schools interested in Plato, need to bring him in for an official visit as soon as possible. Nick plans on graduating in December and he will enroll at the college of his choice in January.

We asked Plato which schools are in the mix for his final official visits.

"Miami (Fla.) called my coach and they are interested in me and my teammate (David Young) now. I'd love to visit Miami. They are "Tight End U" and I'd love to play at a school that has produced guys like Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olsen."

"Wisconsin, Purdue, Colorado and Texas A&M are still calling and I'm still interested in them. Again, if they want me, they need to bring me in for a visit soon because I plan on making my decision before Christmas."

Plato and his Edwardsville teammates play a huge game tomorrow night as they take on rival and perennial power East St. Louis.
