Coach Greg McGirt On Higgs

BSR spoke with Pompano Beach High School head coach, Greg McGirt, on his star linebacker Antwon Higgs and what Purdue is getting.

BSR got the chance to speak with Greg McGirt about Antwon Higgs, the new Boiler linebacker who committed in the middle of December. Higgs, who will enroll in January, is one of the many young Floridians who will be freshmen in 2009.

BSR: Tell us a little bit about Antwon, and what type of kid he is on the field.

Coach McGirt: He's a great leader and a very hard worker. He's a tough kid, and he flies around to the football.

BSR: Tell us a little bit about what Purdue is getting, and what Antwon did for you on the field this year.

Coach McGirt: He's someone that can make a play, and stick his nose in and make a tackle or drop back into pass coverage. He had 110 tackles, 4 interceptions for us this year.

BSR: What was it about West Lafayette and Purdue that sold Antwon, and led to him choosing to play for the Boilermakers?

Coach McGirt: It's just how he felt about the school and the coaching staff. It makes me feel good seeing kids that work hard and achieve what they can if they have the talent to make it to the next level.

BSR: What kind of person is Antwon in the classroom?

Coach McGirt: He's here in Pompano Beach, and it's one of the finest schools in the county. He got a chance and graduated early. He's a very fine student and a very nice kid.

BSR: Finally, Coach, with Antwon graduating early and planning to enroll early, when can the Boilermakers expect him in West Lafayette?

Coach McGirt: He'll be up there around the 10th of January.
