Sterling Griffin has taken one official visit so far. Trekking to Purdue for their annual battle against the Wolverines from Michigan, the Boilermakers put on a show that is still hard to overcome for any school still in the mix for Griffin.
"Yeah it's between Purdue, South Florida, and Oklahoma State. Purdue is… I mean they are at the top of my list but I still want to take my visits" Griffin stated.
With the Boilers still firmly at the top of the list for the blazing receiver from the Sunshine State, many expect a decision to be forthcoming from Griffin. That, however, is something that Griffin says isn't imminent.
"Really, whatever comes first… I mean, if I see something that hits me then I'll make a decision, but I'll probably take my visits."
Something that the Boiler program has to offer that some other universities cannot, is a close relationship with an incoming signal caller. Griffin has that with none other than Purdue quarterback commit Rob Henry.
"Yeah I mean, we're already starting to build a relationship. Rob is real cool. We talk like once a week. We see how everything is going football wise, school wise, everything. Rob is a real cool guy. I really look at that, already having that relationship. We're not even playing together yet and we already have that relationship. I know him, I feel comfortable with him. I seen his video and he's a really great athlete. I look at all that."
Not only is having a relationship with a potential teammate something that Griffin is scrutinizing closely, but also the possibility of playing in a conference with the prestige of the Big Ten.
"Yeah, I mean, the chance to play early and coming in and getting on the field is really what I'm looking for. And they're playing in the big ten, so many great teams you're playing week in and week out."
Several other factors will also come under close consideration for Griffin as he heads closer and closer to decision. And the Boilermakers continue to make strong overtures, especially on several key points.
"I know that with coach hope coming in, he'll be there until I leave. And with the new offensive coordinator coming in, we've already built a close relationship. They're offense, playing early, getting touches… all those things are sounding good to me right now."
Purdue will know sooner rather than later whether they sound good enough to land yet another Floridian.
Purdue Still Heavy On Griffin's Mind
