With the number of available scholarships getting smaller in the 2013 football recruiting class for the Missouri Tigers, they are focusing on a few positions of need to help round out this year's group.
The primary position that appears to be of major focus is the defensive end spot.
One of the latest prospects to appear on the Tigers radar is Alief (TX) Taylor 2013 sleeper DE Duke Ejiofor 6'4" 215lbs 4.53 forty time, and 39" vertical jump.
Ejiofor, who committed to Rice back in July, has seen his stock rise and several schools, including Mizzou, turn their attention his way.
Ejiofor spoke to ShowMeMizzou.com about his recruitment and specifically Mizzou.
"I have been talking to Missouri a lot the past few weeks, and Coach Kul came by my school recently," said Ejiofor. " I have been talking to Coach Kul and he said they are interested in me and have liked what they have seen of my film, but they are going to continue to watch me and my senior season and then have me probably visit after my season is over. They haven't offered yet, but they say the like me and an offer is possible."
The speedy defensive end also talked about his interest level in Missouri despite currently being committed to the Rice Owls.
My interest is really high in them (Missouri). I was suppose to visit for the Alabama game, but that didn't work out, so it would likely be in December or January. They are a good school in both football and academics, and they play in the SEC. It would be pretty nice playing in the SEC against the best competition."
"I am also hearing from TCU and they are recruiting me as well and have talked about me visiting. The Rice coaches are aware of the new interest and just want me keep them updated," continued Ejiofor.
The Houston area senior, who reports personal bests of 275lbs in the bench press, 405lbs in the squat and 265lbs in the power clean to go Long with his 4.5 forty speed, is playing in his first season of varsity football. He has recorded over 30 tackles and 6 sacks thru 6 games.
Duke told me what college coaches are telling him that they like most about his abilities.
"Everyone talks about how much they like my speed off the edge and my technique. I have l long arms and use them and my hands well to keep linemen off me,"he said.
Ejiofor was not sure when he might have a final decision on a school given his recent interest he is receiving. He did talk about the things he would be looking for to help him make that decision.
"Basically, I want to go to a school with a good environment in both football and school. Good coaches and teammate where I can be comfortable and get my degree."
The Tigers have spent time at Alief Taylor recruiting there as of late and have offers extended to Ejiofor teammates 2013 DE Obo Okoronwu (Oklahoma St. commit) and 2014 WR Keenen Brown.
