"I committed before the start of the season because I thought it would be a good idea to get it out of the way," Williams told OwlDigest.com. "Plus, the Rice coaches seemed to be really interested in me."
According to the 6-2.5, 225-pound TE/DE prospect Owl CB coach Jason Washington asked Williams to make sure of his commitment to them because they did not want any soft, only solid, verbals.
"I like the academics, it's close to home and I get along real well with Coach Washington so I chose to end the suspense, committing back in the summer," Williams said.
"Coach Washington," Williams continued, "Is cool, real energetic and enthusiastic. He checks in with me regularly and is a real cool guy. He always talks to my mom too. I think they talk more than we do."
Never hurts one bit to be in good with mom does it?
"No sir," Williams chuckling said, "Coach Washington's got her. He's got her pretty good."
