Owls Headed To Omaha!

Rice beat Texas A&M in Sunday's come from behind thriller to earn it's spot in Omaha...

Rice was pushed to the limit Sunday night, using 5 pitchers and having to rally from a 4 run deficit. But ultimately, like they have so many other times this year, the Owls came out on top in the end to beat Texas A&M 6-5 and secure yet another trip to Omaha for the College World Series. Rice swept the Aggies 9-7 Saturday and 6-5 Sunday in taking the first two games of a best of three series.

The difference in sunday night's game came in the 7th inning when the Owls trailing 5-4, had Adam Zornes hit a two run homer off Texas A&M's Travis Starling. It was Zornes team leading 12th Home Run of the season. Zornes drove in Rick Hague who had reached on a soft infield roller to 3B.

In the losing effort Starling was stellar as he came in to relieve A&M's Kyle Thebeau. Thebeau yielded a walk and was ineffective after failing to throw stikes. Starling worked out of a bases loaded, 1 out jam in the 7th, making two sensational plays in the field. On the first he fielded Jordan Dodson's bunt cleanly and fired to first for the put out.

Bobby Bell notched the Save coming on to shut down the Aggies in the 8th and 9th frames. Bell was masterful in changing speeds with his pitches - striking out 2 of the 7 batters he faced. Mike Price got the win.

Rick Hague amd Adam Zornes were reponsible for all the Owl runs. Hague went 3-4 with 4 RBIs and Zornes 2-4 with the game winner.

Game 1 of the College World Series is scheduled for 1:00 pm next Saturday June 14th in Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium.
