The Major League Baseball Draft was held last Thursday and Friday. All eyes were on Ryan Lewis as the draft approached. Turns out the draft did not become an issue that delayed Lewis from coming to Rice. The Owls were fortunate that that things turned out the way they did. They got an awesome individual, student, and of course athlete when Lewis started classes this week at Rice.
Eleven current Owls were drafted in the MLB summer drafy last week. Bryan Price was taken with the 45th pick by the Boston Red Sox. Rice signee Trey Haley was taken 76th overall by the Cleveland Indians.
David Bailiff and staff kicked off the summer football camp circuit with two sessions Thursday and Friday last week. Over 175 recruits showed up to Rice Stadium and the Owls landed a couple of new commits after camp. Interest level is high for the Owls right now - a testament to the work ethic of the Rice football staff. Coach Bailiff told me his staff is one of the hardest working group of coaches he's ever seen. It's definitely paying off as the Owls have positioned themselves well with some of the top recruits in the state.
