Lancaster Accepts Rice Offer

After months of waiting, and collecting other offers, one of San Antonio's best athletes finally gets the news he was waiting for...

I just got an e-mail from Jarek Lancaster a few minutes ago letting me know that he had just been offered a scholarship by Rice.

Lancaster called Coaches Blake Miller and David Bailiff and accepted on the spot. He becomes the Owl's 5th verbal commitment. He is being recruited as a Linebacker/Safety and could play either position at Rice.

I can tell you that Lancaster wanted to be an Owl badly, and kept focused on doing the things he could control to make that happen. When he got the chance to impress Owl coaches at last week's Owl Mini Camp in New Braunfels, Lancaster seized the opportunity. He clocked exceptional 40 and pro shuttle times, and wowed coaches with his fluid hips and change of direction.

Lancaster could grow into a 6-1 230 pound Linebacker or be a big 220 pound Safety. The sky is the limit for this versatile athlete who will also play Quarterback at Helotes this fall.

We'll have more later on Jarek's commit. Welcome aboard!
