He was one of several prospects who shined at the recent Rice Mini Camp held in Arlington.
Bauer's numbers on the day included a 4.6 second forty yard dash, and an electric 4.3 second pro shuttle time. Cody measured in officially at 6-4 1/4 232 pounds.
The Pottsboro star was named Newcomer of the Year in District 14-2A after a Sophomore season where he racked up over 120 tackles playing Linebacker. He moved to Defensive End last year to utilize his impressive size, and notched 96 tackles with 15 sacks en route to 1st Team All District 14-2A honors.
Cody has been receiving "a ridiculous amount of mail" in his words but is done with recruiting.
Schools showing heavy interest in him are Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and the University of North Texas. After committing to the Owls, he camped at OU and the Sooners asked him to stay afterwards to measure his interest in Rice. Cody stayed firm to his pledge and is solidly committed.
Like fellow commit Alex Lowry, Bauer excels in Powerlifting - he Squats 500 pounds, excellent for a player of his height and at his age. He also Benches 300 pounds and Power Cleans 315. With time in Yancy McKnight's Strength and Conditioning Program, Bauer could be a dominating DE at a very likely collegiate playing size of 6-5 260 pounds.
I spoke with Cody tonight and asked him why he chose Rice.
"I really like the coaching staff, they are a great bunch of guys and really down to earth. I like the family atmosphere at Rice and of course the education at Rice is the best - period."
Cody is an outstanding student - he's scored a 25 on his ACT and a 1700 on his SAT.
Welcome to Rice, Cody!
