Weekly 2009 Recruit Recaps

It's just past the halfway point in the high school football season, and several other colleges are noticing that Rice has some very good recruits in the fold for 2009…

Back in the summer, Rice went from 0 commits to about 10 seemingly overnight. Some of those recruits were relatively unknown by everyone outside the Rice coaching staff. Well, they aren't unknowns to other colleges anymore, due in large part to their play on the field this season.

This week I'll add an update on each player's recruiting activity, along with scores and stats from their games.

Andre Brackens, Dallas Parish Episcopal – 9 carries for 96 yards, rushing touchdowns of 1 and 5 yards. 6 catches for 158 yards, including a 65 yard touchdown reception.

Cody Bauer, Pottsboro – 6 tackles, 2 for a loss, 1 sack. 7 quarterback hurries.

Schools still chasing: I asked Cody if he was still getting mail from other schools and his direct quote was, "Yea, but I don't even bother opening them now – they just get trashed."

Trey Briggs, Jersey Village – injured, did not play in a 35-21 loss to Langham Creek.

Alex Francis, Fort Bend Hightower – 5 tackles, 3 pass break-ups

Nic Hammett, Rockdale – 17 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception. Hammett has 102 tackles already this season.

Jon Hodde, Burton – Burton beat Louise 42-21. Hodde receives his blocking grade out tomorrow.

Broderick Jackson, Kirbyville – Jackson played sparingly in a blowout win over Hemphill. He had 6 carries for 56 yards, including a 5 yard touchdown.

Bobby Janisch, Jersey Village – Jersey Village lost it's 6th game of the year, dropping a 35-21 contest to Langham Creek.

Jarek Lancaster, San Antonio O'Connor – Lancaster was 4-for-9 passing for 34 yards and 1 touchdown. Jarek continues to run the ball well, Friday night he had 6 carries for 58 yards.

Alex Lowry, Caddo Mills – Lowry only played about a half in the Fightin' Foxes blowout of Como-Pickton, but had 4 tackles for a loss and a sack. Caddo Mills held C-P to negative yardage rushing.

Schools still chasing: Alex has steadfastly maintained that Rice was the first to offer, and thus the only school he's interested in.

Paul Porras, Scottsdale Saguaro – defended Chaparral's star 6-4 Receiver. Paul limited him to 1 catch and had 3 solo tackles, with 2 assists. He also had 2 pass break-ups in the game.

Charles Ross, Schertz Clemens – Ross has 818 yards on 101 carries for the season. He's scored just about every way possible – returns, interceptions, long runs, catching passes.

Cade Shaw, CC Calallen – didn't play last weekend.

Josh Skinner – was one of the first commits in the class. He gets hand written letters daily from BCS schools. He had 5 tackles, a forced fumble and a sack last weekend.
