He ran a 4.41 at camp last summer and has run 10.6 in the 100 meters. The 5-10 185 pound Miller is actually the defending 100 meters champion in District 2-5A.
He's more than just a track star too. Miller put his running ability to good use this season – he rushed for 1725 yards on 204 carries, scoring 18 touchdowns along the way. Also a gifted Receiver, Darius caught 46 passes for 499 yards out of the backfield, adding 8 touchdowns by air as well.
Miller has already been named 1st Team All- District and narrowly missed out on being named the District Offensive MVP. Playing a limited role on Defense, he chipped in 28 tackles with 2 interceptions.
I spoke to Darius Tuesday night at his Midland home to discuss recruiting and his future plans.
"I'm mainly hearing from Rice. They've recruited me harder than anyone else and I've been staying in touch with them for the longest. Coach LaFavers calls me every time he's allowed to, and I've talked to Coach Bailiff a few times too. I've been keeping up with Rice's season and they've done pretty well. I like what they are doing there."
I also asked about any other teams he was hearing from and if he had a favorite.
"It's mainly Rice – I think I'll probably end up there. We're moving to Dallas, so I'll actually be closer to the Rice campus when we do. My sister and step-dad are already there (in Dallas)."
On his plans for a visit or commitment…
"I'll probably go up their (to Rice) in the next couple of weeks for an official visit. Coach LaFavers is supposed to be here Thursday night for an in-home visit with me and my mom so we'll probably set up the visit then. I'm not sure about when I'll commit, I need to see the campus first."
With Miller's speed he could play any number of positions in college - including Cornerback or Running Back.
I'll be talking to Darius again next week – he said he would have a clearer idea of his visit schedule then…
