Jackson To Play In Title Game

Rice commit Broderick Jackson and his Kirbyville team haven't lost a game this year. They have one game left - which means the versatile East Texas athlete will be playing for the 2A State Championship this weekend. We caught up with Broderick after their playoff win last weekend to get his thoughts on the game and recruiting...

The current Rice recruiting class has already seen one of its members crowned as a State Champion. Paul Porras and his Scottsdale Saguaro Sabercats won their 3rd straight Arizona Class 4A-I Title last weekend.

This weekend 3 more future Rice Owls are playing for the chance to earn that distinction. In 5A Semi-Final action, Hightower's Alex Francis will play against San Antonio Clark Saturday at DKR-Memorial Stadium. Meanwhile Pottsboro's Cody Bauer takes on Cisco Saturday at 6:00 pm in Justin in a Class 2A Division II game. The third has a chance to take home Championship hardware.

In a Texas battle of East vs. West, Broderick Jackson and his undefeated East Texas Kirbyville Wildcats will take on Muleshoe from far West Texas. Mule shoe is also undefeated. The game for the Division I Class 2A Championship will be played at 6:00 pm Saturday at the Gopher Bowl in Grand Prairie.

For Jackson, the game culminates a season in which he has done a little of everything on the field for Kirbyville.

On Offense, he's rushed for 1,085 yards on 138 carries in a workhorse role at Running Back for the Wildcats. He also has 6 catches for 94 receiving yards through the air. All tolled, he's found the end-zone 17 times in 2008.

On Defense, Jackson has played a hard-hitting brand of Safety for Kirbyville. Broderick loves to hit, and at 5-11 205 pounds he packs a wallop. He's averaged over 8 tackles per game and has returned two interceptions for touchdowns this year.

As expected though, other schools have also been impressed with Jackson's talent and versatility. Though he remains committed to Rice, the Owls are in a heated battle for Jackson's services and will likely remain so until Signing Day in February. Rice coaches visited Broderick last week in Kirbyville and are very much aware that he is a valuable recruiting target for others.

Scout.com's Ahmard Vital caught up with Broderick shortly after Kirbyville defeated Altair Rice Consolidated 61-42 last Friday night in Humble. Jackson had 4 touchdowns in the win.
