Frazier: It Felt Like Home

One of several official visitors to the Rice campus last weekend, Minnesota's Corey Frazier talks about his visit to Houston...

When Corey Frazier says he "felt like he was at home" while visiting the Rice campus in Houston this weekend he actually was at home. Frazier and his family still have a home in Tomball, just outside Houston. So while Corey visited Rice to check out things he hasn't seen before - the city isn't one of them. He's very familiar with Houston, in fact he actually lived here up until his sophomore year in high school and still has a lot of friends at Tomball High School. One of which is talented 2010 Receiver Jordan Leslie (more on Jordan later).

I asked Corey more tonight about his trip as we discussed his visit and where he stands in the recruiting process.

But first a little more about Frazier the player.

Corey is about 6-1 175 right now and has become a hot commodity recently after winning All-Conference and All-State honors at Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie Minnesota. Frazier is being recruited as both a Cornerback and Safety. The Owls are recruiting Frazier to start out at Cornerback. He has an extremely high football IQ that allows him to make as many plays with his mind as with his physical ability.

Right now Corey has offers from Minnesota, UTEP, Rice, Stanford, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Utah. He is also receiving heavy interest from UCLA and Vanderbilt. He lists a Top 3 of Minnesota, Rice, and Stanford at the moment. He plans to visit Stanford sometime in January before making a final decision.

So how did his visit to Rice go? Here's more from Corey.

"It was real nice I had a good time. Chris Jammer was my host, we toured the campus and talked to academic advisors and also went to practice. Later we hung out with some of the players at their apartment. I met some of the players, like Jarett Dillard. He was a real nice guy."

Frazier is interested in studying Business or Sports Management.

I asked Corey if he minded the cold front that hit Houston late Saturday night.

"No not really - it's about negative 20 degrees here right now so that wasn't bad at all."

(Stupid question by yours truly...)

Overall, Corey liked his trip but isn't quite ready to decide on a school right now. The Owls it seems made a strong case for their cause.

Corey had this to say when I asked him to rate his trip.

"I'd give the visit a 10. I mean it felt like home for me. My house is only about 30 minutes from there."

Frazier says he will make a decision sometime in January. He isn't ready to name a leader, but ranks the Owls in his Top 3 after visiting Minnesota and UTEP also...

Now, I mentioned that Corey is good friends with sensational Tomball junior Receiver Jordan Leslie. The two played together for years while Corey was living in Tomball. I had to ask Corey who would win if the two squared off one-on-one.

"Well, I have to say I would. We played against each other a lot growing up and I think I would win that battle."

You have to like a player with confidence. Leslie is one of the Top 5 Receivers in the state for 2010...

We'll have more on Frazier's recruitment in the coming weeks as we keep an eye on this fantastic prospect who just might want to come back "home" for good...
