The Eagle Has Landed: McGuffie Is An Owl!

Rice Football may have landed its most heralded transfer in the history of the school today when a very high profile name visited the campus to sign transfer papers...

Former Cy-Fair and Michigan Wolverine Running Back Sam McGuffie ended speculation on where he would transfer to play football today when he signed enrollment papers to attend Rice University.

McGuffie was on campus this afternoon to fill out paperwork for classes that begin Monday at Rice.

He chose Rice over Texas A&M and the University of Houston.

He is perhaps the highest profile recruit to ever join the Rice Football program.

McGuffie was a 4-Star recruit coming out of Cy-Fair High School; rated 7th best RB in the country as a senior last year. He played in the US Army All-Star Game. As a freshman at Michigan last season he was second on the team among all Wolverine Running Backs with 486 yards.

McGuffie will have to sit out the 2009 season by virtue of transfer rules and will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

He joins former Cy-Fair teammate Travis Bradshaw on the Owl squad and was part of the nearly 60,000 people in attendance at the Texas Bowl Tuesday night that saw Rice beat Western Michigan 38-14.

We'll call Sam later for his comments on what is one of the biggest days in Rice Football history!

What a way to start 2009!! Wow...!
